City Black Employee Resource Groups
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!"
- Popular African proverb

Our Background
CBERG serves as a vital platform for London-based Black ERGs and Minority Ethnic ERGs with a Black Heritage sub-group. Our focus is on advancing the development and progression of Black professionals within the UK’s financial services sector.
CBERG offers these Employee Resource Groups, from some of the world’s leading institutions, a unique opportunity to collaborate and drive the development and success of the Black community.
Objectives
-
Establish a community and extended support network for CBERG member firm Black ERGs.
-
Provide a platform for collective advocacy on behalf of Black professionals in the financial services industry.
-
Share best practices that support achieving our overall objectives.
Pillars
CBERG has established functional pillars to help organise it effectively in delivering on it's objectives. Each pillar will be provided specific guidance on its purpose, structure, roles and responsibilities, as well as how it will be reporting on its undertakings via a term of reference.
ASPP
The Advisory and Strategic Planning Pillar (“ASPP”) plays a crucial role within the City Black Employee Resource Groups (CBERG).
This pillar serves as a fundamental building block, responsible for establishing strategic priorities for the group, collaborating with other pillars to translate these priorities, and provide advice to ensure effective governance across the CBERG network.
CEDP
The Communication, Engagement, and Data Pillar ("CEDP") serves as a crucial component of CBERG.
This pillar's primary purpose is to facilitate effective communication, foster engagement, and manage data within CBERG.
CBERG Steer Co
Working Groups
To assist the CBERG SteerCo, there are several working groups focusing on the delivery of four key focus areas.
Virtual drop-ins
The objective of this working group is to make more time for immersive discussions on topics of interest, once a month. Each session will have subject matter experts and have varying amounts of open forum discussions, breakout rooms and Q&A. These session are currently limited to CBERG members only for the time being. This may be extended to firms' ERG members in the future.
Cross firm collaboration
This working group is focusing on providing a one-stop-shop for information on events hosted by CBERG member firms, partners and connected organisations. They will also work with member firms to arrange in person events for CBERG member's wider ERG members.
Philanthropy
This working group is helping to facilitate cross-collaboration volunteering opportunities across it's CBERG members. CBERG member firms that have already organised their own philanthropy events can increase impact by extending an invitation to a wider network via CBERG.
Early years careers support
This working group's aim is to to facilitate mentorship opportunities targeting 6th formers, university students, those on formal entry level programmes, or those very early in their careers. CBERG's intention is not to reinvent the wheel but to partner with existing organisations to amplify their impact in the communities they operate in.
